IS THERE ANOTHER SUITABLE FLOOR FOR A GREENHOUSE RATHER THAN GRAVEL?  WHAT DOES THE GRAVEL DO  THAT SOME THING ELSE WONT DO AS WELL?

A gravel floor is used for

A gravel floor is used for adequate drainage. Most people don't want to just leave grass as the floor, so they will choose a flooring that covers this up and will drain well, like gravel or mulch. If you use a concrete slab, be sure to install a drain and have the slab properly sloped.

If using pea gravel, keep in mind this can be tiring to walk on for long periods. Try installing plastic greenhouse flooring on top of the gravel to make it a breeze to walk on.

There use to be a pool where I placed our portable greenhouse this year, so it has a sand/dirt floor.

Should give me enough drainage and it happen to be flat...
