Much of the country is set to begin tilling under their summer gardens and preparing for next growing season. A major part of this preperation usually involves the time-honored, battle-tested, gardener's best friend: compost.
Composting has been an unwritten must for home gardeners for quite some time. In fact, in places like San Francisco composting has become a legal must as well.
The addition of properly prepared compost will make any soil better. It increases nutrient levels that can be...

This site is an excellent reminder that stewardship of the Earth should last for more than one day, and it points out some excellent tips for continuing the Earth Day spirit for the remaining 364 days of the year.

By all accounts, 2009 is going to be a pretty rough year on an economic and personal finance front. It has certaily show signs of going that direction already. However, with turmoil comes the opportunity for change. To be able to take a fresh look at your situation and try something different. If you have always wanted to grow and maintain your very own vegetable garden, then current events may just be the catalyst you need to pull you off the fence and into the dirt. ...

Old and inefficient furnaces, air conditioning units, and appliances waste boatloads of energy and are notoriously unfriendly to the environment. That, and of course they cost us all mountains of cash in unnecessary energy costs. I decided to look into the usefulness of said...

There's nothing I like more than lighting a few lavender scented candles, drawing a nice warm bubble bath and...oh wait. Am I writing this out loud? Uhh...uhh....what I mean is errr...throwing on my plaid flannel shirt and suspenders, grilling some meat over an open flame, and chopping some wood. You know, man things and such.
Seriously though everyone loves candles. I happened upon a nifty candle heater that puts to good use all the lost heat of a candle. Simple,...

A co-worker showed me this neat little font called the ecofont. Basically, it's a font with holes in the letters. The designers claim the font uses about 20% less ink than a similar font without the holes. I made some images to show what the font looks like at 100% and zoomed in to 400%.
Actually very readable at 100% size.
Now an extreme closup on the exact same font.
Pretty neat if you ask me.

If we're all expected to ride around in things like this, in the name of saving the planet and whatnot, I think I'll just walk...or carpool...ride my bike...anything but strap myself into this thing. Hitting a grasshopper at full speed in this thing becomes a major collision.
Seriously though, it is pretty cool that the thing runs on compressed air. As long as they can figure out the logistics of making that work, I've heard there is an unlimited deposit of hot air located somewhere...
